No-Show Protection
No-show protection is any system that reduces the financial impact of customers who fail to attend booked appointments.
What counts as a no-show?
A no-show happens when a customer has a booked appointment and doesn't attend — without cancelling or giving notice. For businesses that work with their time (nail technicians, hairdressers, tattoo artists, massage therapists, lash technicians, barbers), a single no-show can mean an hour or more of lost income.
How upfront payment protects you
The most effective no-show protection is requiring payment at the time of booking. If a customer has paid upfront — even a deposit — they have a financial reason to attend or cancel in time. Customers who have paid rarely no-show.
If they do no-show after paying, you've already been compensated for your time.
No-show protection approaches
Upfront payment
Customers pay the full amount or a deposit when they book. Most effective method.
Cancellation policy
Set a minimum notice window — cancellations inside the window forfeit the deposit or are charged a fee.
Automated reminders
Send automatic email reminders before the appointment. Reduces forgotten appointments.
Waitlist
Fill last-minute cancellation spots with waitlisted customers rather than losing the time entirely.
How Nextro handles no-shows
With Nextro, payment is collected automatically when a customer books. You don't have to request payment separately or follow up. Customers who book online have already paid before the appointment is confirmed — giving you no-show protection without any manual effort.
Automated reminder emails are also sent before each appointment, further reducing the chance of a forgotten booking.
