How lash technicians take deposits

A 2-hour lash appointment cancelled with an hour's notice is 2 hours of income you can't recover. Taking a deposit — or full payment — at the time of booking protects your chair time automatically, without any manual follow-up.

Why lash appointments need upfront payment

Lash appointments are long — full sets typically take 2–2.5 hours, infills around 75 minutes. When a customer cancels at short notice, you lose that entire block. Unlike a 20-minute nail treatment, a 2-hour lash set is difficult to fill at short notice.

The most effective protection is requiring payment at the time of booking. Customers who have paid are far less likely to cancel last minute — and if they do, your income is protected.

Deposit vs full payment — which to choose

Full payment upfront

  • +Maximum protection
  • +No balance to collect on the day
  • +Simplest for customer and business
  • ·Higher barrier to booking for new customers

Partial deposit

  • +Lower barrier to first booking
  • +Still provides some protection
  • +Balance collected on the day
  • ·Doesn't fully protect income if no-show
  • ·Requires day-of payment handling

Most established lash technicians charge full payment upfront. For new customers, a partial deposit with the remainder due on the day can feel lower-friction.

Common questions

Answers about booking, payments, and getting started with Nextro.

Should I charge a deposit or the full amount upfront?

Many lash technicians charge the full amount upfront, particularly for full sets (which can take 2+ hours). A full upfront payment provides maximum protection. If you prefer a deposit, £20–30 is common for lash appointments.

What if a customer cancels after paying a deposit?

Your cancellation policy determines the outcome. You set the rules — for example, refunds for cancellations 48+ hours before, no refund inside 48 hours. Nextro applies your policy automatically.

Do I need Stripe to take deposits?

Yes — to accept card deposits online, you need to connect a Stripe account. This takes around 5 minutes and routes payments directly to your bank. You can also run cash-only appointments without Stripe.

What about patch tests?

You can add a note to your booking page that new customers must book a patch test 48 hours before their first appointment. Customers see this before they book.

Can I take deposits for infills differently to full sets?

Yes. Each service has its own price. You might require £85 upfront for a volume full set but £48 for an infill. Each service is configured separately.
